Deep Diving

As a group, we've decided on a pitch. With this, we will be able to meet all the requirements, and it will be enjoyable for us to film, edit and promote. Now it's time to decide what genre will best fit the pitch. We have decided to research three genres: thriller, adventure, and drama. In order to execute the idea properly, we must explore all aspects of each genre and decide which will be best.

We’ve decided to research thrillers because our chosen pitch could take a darker path. Thrillers are typically known for their scare factor, and there's no telling what the girls will find on the journey. So it could lead to dark, twisted paths fitting the genre.

Our decision to research the adventure genre was based on the possibility that the girls journey could lead to dangerous feats and amazing impressments. Adventure movies leave you on the edge of your seat, rooting for the protagonist. Which is a possibility that we see potential in for the pitch.

Drama is also a genre we could foresee fitting the pitch. It's full of shocking discoveries and exaggerated moments. Teenage girls are dramatic… and so is our pitch.

We're interested to see where the research could lead us. But we must further deep dive into each genre in order to decide which will be best. Overall, we will base our decisions on common conventions and editing styles of the genre.

The Persuasion Invasion

The first pitch is: “A woman comes home to realize her door is unlocked. She goes inside not knowing someone else is inside and sees her roommate dead.”

The second pitch: “Two teenagers learn about the mystery of the Fort Lauderdale Fortune. They go on a journey to uncover the truth.”

The third pitch: “A businesswoman having a regular night with her baby goes to shower and comes back to her baby missing from the crib.”

We have decided to go with the second pitch as it will be the most feasible to film and edit. It also seems the most exciting as there is so much to do in the city of Fort Lauderdale, allowing us to do the most job of a journey. Also, our old projects are similar to the first and third pitches. The second pitch will allow us to use much more camera angles and movements as well as mis-en-scene.

The second pitch will be more of a challenge but will be much more worthwhile. There will be much more genres and movies to use for our research.

Overall, the second pitch will be the best for our skillset. It will result in the best film.

The Trio

Welcome back my lovely readers, it's time for you all to meet my group. I will be making a five minute movie in a few months. The preparation is about to start soon. But first, I need you all to meet the group.

I'm working with Ashleigh Miller & Britanique Simpson. I knew for this project that I wanted to work with at least one other person. After the final task in AS Level, I knew working alone would be extremely difficult. I worked with a partner last year and it was very helpful, it is a lot of research, planning, and executing. To do it all by yourself, is not worth it. Therefore, I wanted to find a group to work with.

We have already set some kind of plan of each person's role in the group. We will collaborate frequently, doing many things as a group, while still having some separate. I will be drawing the storyboard and acting. Britanique will be the one to film. Ashleigh will be the one to edit. All of us will work together on the research and planning.

It is important that we are collaborating, otherwise we will all dislike the film. The research will start with formulating pitches and deciding on one. There are many different things we will research, one of them being genre. There is also planning, including creating a script and plan.

I hope you all are excited as I take you along the ride with me.

New Year, New Me

Welcome back my lovely readers, some time has passed. I'm taking this class again, but this time it's AICE Media Studies A Level.

For anyone that's new to my blog, I'm a high school student taking AICE Media Studies A Level. Last year, I took AICE Media Studies AS Level. Throughout the year, I post blogs updating my readers about what I am doing in that class. Whether I am currently editing a film, doing research for the film, whatever it is, I'll be blogging about it. I hope any new readers decide to stay and follow my journey.

I'm very excited to be taking the class again. I learned so much last year. It was a really great experience for me. Now there are more projects to complete and more topics to learn about. Some topics that I might be learning are media regulation, postmodern media, power and the media, and media ecology.

Last year, there were three projects and two essays. The projects were the commercial, music video, and final task. The essays were the extract and audience & institutions.

Essentially, A Level is the second part of Media Studies. I am finishing Media Studies, rather than repeating it. For example, last year I made the first two minutes of a five minute movie. This year, I will make a full five minute movie.

I'm so excited to take you through my process, as I go through media studies (again). I will continually blog about my process.

Final Task

Welcome back my lovely readers, I have finally finished and am able to share my final task with you all. I loved working on this film and have learned so much. Each of the stages were incredibly helpful. It seems so long ago that I started this project. I'm both happy and sad to see it completed. I'm happy that it is finished, successfully. However, I'm sad that it's over since it was so much fun. Well, here's the video!

The Final Stretch

Hello to my lovely readers, today I need to update you all about the editing. The editing process has been very nice and smooth for the most part. As I have already mentioned, Jade did more of the editing. I mostly gave suggestions.
One of my main focuses was the title designs. I suggested to have all the title designs that contain the names of the actors be in the corner. It is important for the title designs not to interfere with the scene going on. The rest of the title designs will be kept in the center as they are more significant and I want them to have a bigger focus.
Another focus was to make sure the quality of each shot was good. Since Jade and I filmed the scenes on separate devices, it was important how I sent her the scenes of Cassandra. If I had texted Jade all of the scenes, the quality would have been messed up and not good. Instead, I emailed them to her which kept all of the scenes at a good quality.
Throughout editing, I was frequently checking my notebook which details all the information about the storyboard. The information being the description of the shot, the costume, props, setting, and title design. I was more focusing on the description of the shot and title design. I wanted to make sure the film matched the original plan. Not that the film is a perfect copy of the plan, but it is a very close resemblance.
From editing I was able to get a better understanding of what should be done in the filming stage and what should be done in the editing phase. Also, before filming I learned to visualize the film in terms of where the actors or objects should be in the screen. For example, if they should be in the center, off to the side, or something else. Obviously there are so many different things I learn after each step in the film process that would help me in the future.

Critical Reflection
